HAND SOLDERING OF PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARDS

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Hand soldering is still widely practised in printed circuit board assembly.  There are always some components that cannot be wave soldered, and even automatic selective soldering machines have their limitations.

Modern soldering irons need to be ultra-slim for comfortable operation yet need to be extremely powerful and responsive for lead free applications.

The Ersa ”I-Con” provides the perfect combination of power and comfort. It has an ultra slim handpiece measuring just 169mm from tip to end, and yet has a powerful 150 watt heating element and recovers from standby to full temperature in just 3 seconds.

It also boasts features like a motion sensor to automatically switch it to standby when not in use, password protection, process window alarm and it can be programmed via a USB memory stick. The i-Con is currently on special offer from Blundell.

ERSA’S SLEEK NEW ICON ULTRA SLIM SOLDERING IRON

Friday, October 24th, 2008

The humble soldering iron is a tool that often gets taken for granted in electronics assembly, but it is still a widely used tool and it pays to review the hand soldering process from time to time. Many older irons are fat and cumbersome. Slim bodied soldering irons have been available for some time from other suppliers but they previously had the disadvantage of having the heating element as part of the tip, so when the tip failed, you had to purchase a combined element AND tip, which was expensive. Ersa have changed all that with the slim ICON by making the tip separate from the 150 watt heating element, so you don’t have to replace both, and replacement costs are low. Recovery from standby to soldering temperature takes just 3 seconds. It has a motion sensor to detect when not in use, and you can pre- program it from a USB memory stick. HAND SOLDERING PC BOARDS

Friday, February 15th, 2008

In electronics companies of all sizes hand soldering is far from dying out and is still being widely practised throughout the industry. There are always some components that cannot be wave soldered, and even automatic selective soldering machines have their limitations. The humble soldering iron (or hand soldering station as it should be called) often gets forgotton when considering investment in new equipment.

Modern soldering irons need to be ultra-slim to please the operator, yet need to be extremely powerful and responsive for lead free applications. This is why Ersa have come up with the “I-Con” which has an ultra slim handpiece measuring just 169mm from tip to end, and yet has a powerful 150 watt heating element and recovers from standby to full temperature in just 3 seconds! It is also packed with features like a motion sensor to automatically switch it to standby when not in use, password protection, process window alarm and it can be programmed via a USB memory stick.
