The two options are a complete competitively priced workstation for PCB repair, and a lower cost hand held rework device based on the same technology.

The Hybrid station is designed to replace outdated, uncontrolled hot air guns, which are still commonplace in electronics factories. These old systems lack repeatability, and can damage the boards and components.

The Ersa Hybrid system uses safe IR heating combined with regulated hot air to deliver a controlled temperature ramp of up to 4 degrees per second to gently remove small and meduim sized surface mounted devices (SMD’s).

An integral vacuum pen is supplied to help remove the components once the solder has reached liquidous.

One of the great strengths of Ersa’s rework stations is the ‘RPC 500′ reflow process camera. It enables the user to view the reflow process and watch the ‘double drop’ when components such as BGA’s are being reworked or replaced.

The RPC camera views with 70 times optical magnification. The unit’s macro zoom lens delivers the highest quality live images of the removal and replacement of BGA’s Flip Chips and Pin Grid arrays on rigid or flexible circuits.

The camera comes with LED dual spot lighting on flexible arms with variable light intensity. It is available on Ersa’s IR550 and 650 SMT and BGA rework systems.

Leicestershire based JJS Electronics have placed an order with Blundell Production Equipment to upgrade their SMT and BGA rework capability. The new Ersa IR550 rework station with IRsoft profiling software and PL550 alignment and replacement system with process control camera will be installed shortly. 

JJS have also ordered an ERSASCOPE 2 under-BGA inspection station from Blundell combining standard BGA lens with both chip lens and look-down lenses. This will give them an unrivalled inspection capability. The Image-Doc software with measurement, image enhancement and problem solution database will enable them to rapidly identify and correct any defects on complex surface mounted assemblies.
