In electronics companies of all sizes hand soldering is far from dying out and is still being widely practised throughout the industry. There are always some components that cannot be wave soldered, and even automatic selective soldering machines have their limitations. The humble soldering iron (or hand soldering station as it should be called) often gets forgotton when considering investment in new equipment.

Modern soldering irons need to be ultra-slim to please the operator, yet need to be extremely powerful and responsive for lead free applications. This is why Ersa have come up with the “I-Con” which has an ultra slim handpiece measuring just 169mm from tip to end, and yet has a powerful 150 watt heating element and recovers from standby to full temperature in just 3 seconds! The Southern Manufacturing Show 2009 turned out to be much better than we had expected. The move to Farnborough from Thorpe Park seemed to attract more visitors, and there was a higher proportion of electronics stands. Many of our customers who are contract manufacturers had stands at the show, ensuring their attendance, and the majority of them visited our stand. For a low budget two day show, the enquiry count was extremely good.

Staying on the theme of exhibitions, we have a stand at the Southern Electronics and Manufacturing Show at the FIVE centre, Aerospace Boulevard, Farnborough, Hants GU14 6XA. The show is for 2 days next week on Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th February 2008. On  our stand number E50 we will be demonstrating the latest Ersa IR550 SMT and BGA rework station, the Ersa Hybrid Tool, the Ersacope 2 for BGA inspection, the new pencil slim ultra fast heat -up I-Con soldering iron from Ersa and the OKO 1000 aqueous PCB cleaning machine.
